This year as part of their state of the farm report, agtech company Bushel surveyed farmers about their usage of AI. Director of Marketing Julia Eberhart says about 14% of farmers are using artificial intelligence, and another 11% weren’t sure whether they were or not.

Eberhart… “ So 75% said they have not tried really anything with AI. 11% said not sure, which I have some theories of maybe, you know, is it like they're considering the fact that more are built into tools today, right? They're like, 'Maybe I have and I just didn't even know.' So really, like 14% said, "Yes, I'm using it, I'm trying it out."

But where are these farmers finding uses for artificial intelligence in farm operations?

Eberhart… “ Interestingly, it's a lot more on like editing documents, helping with business and financial analysis. We have yield prediction in agronomy is like the last selectable available answer. So decision-making on input planning is like it's still 36% of the 14%, but much higher on like the business and the, and the writing and stuff like that. So there's still an exploration phase, obviously. But it, it was kind of interesting to see, uh, those lines as well.”

Top artificial intelligence platforms farmers cited in the survey were ChatGPT, followed by Gemini and CoPilot.
